Hanoi–Sapa Night Train: Romantic and Restful

The train remains the most iconic option for reaching Sapa. You board in the evening in Hanoi and wake up in the mountains. Two night trains link Hanoi to Lao Cai daily: the SP1 (dep. 9:35 PM) and the SP3 (dep. 10:00 PM). Upon arrival at Lao Cai station, a bus shuttle or taxi completes the journey to Sapa in 45 to 60 minutes.

Important: The train does not serve Sapa directly. The Hanoi–Sapa journey by train represents about 9.5 hours in total: 8 hours by train to Lao Cai, and then 1.5 hours of road to Sapa.

Hanoi–Sapa Private Car: Total Comfort and Freedom

Private cars remain the preferred mode of transport for families with children and groups of friends, thanks to schedule flexibility and comfort. It's also the only option that transforms the journey into a travel segment in its own right.

On National Highway 4D after Lao Cai, the landscapes become spectacular. The O Quy Ho Pass (2,037m), with its plunging view over the Muong Hoa Valley and the Hoang Lien Son massif, deserves a twenty-minute stop. By bus or night train, you miss all of this.
